Drawing Challenge Day #4

Okay today’s’ drawing goal really threw me… because I didn’t know what it was

Veronica told me to draw a “mandala”

And much to my surprise it was not a portrait of Nelson Mandela.

It’s like a circular religious symbol. Which is not really in my ballpark of things I draw. It is also luckily for me adopted to be more of a geometric illustration that I can make without insulting peoples religions.

And although I am delightfully offensive, I keep religion and politics far from my scope of things I will make drawings about.

BUT- I do know how to draw Elliott.

And so I present the first and only cat-centric mandala on the internet*

At least it’s the only cat-centric mandala approved by Elliott.

*i do not know if that statement is true, but it probably isn’t.. I mean the internet really likes cats

Drawing Challenge Day#3

Today’s drawing challenge was one I particularly liked… pick an inanimate object that you wished could talk to you.

As many people know I didn’t even have to think about this.

I have always wanted to talk to my car. I want her to be like KITT but sassier. And I want to her stop crimes or whatever talking cars do.

What would you want to talk to you?

♥Lauren

ps. I can’t draw cars… maybe its good I didn’t try to be an automotive designer.

Drawing Challenge Day #2

Today’s drawing challenge is something I may have failed at.

It was to create a drawing without looking at what you are making and also without lifting the pen.

Which is actually never how I draw anything.

So this is what happened. And it seems like it was made by a small child. who forgot what they were making half way through

♥Lauren

p.s. I did look at it while writing the description… my writing is not that nice if I’m not looking

Groundhog Gangster

Today is groundhog’s day.

It’s a time when we watch Bill Murray movies, and think about when we can wear shorts without freezing our butts off.

And although science, and weather people on TV are all like “El Nino is gonna get you… tonight” like a Gloria Estefan song…

Punxsatawny Phil is like… “Whatever whatever, it’s almost spring.”

Do you feel confused about this too? Now, who should you call about this? Maybe Bill Murray directly and not Ghostbusters… they are like ladies now or something.

Happy Birthday Jimmy

So today is Jimmy’s birthday,

you may know Jimmy from this blog as my friend who likes Santa Barbara and that I think is very much the only person I met who can be a really specific Abraham Lincoln impersonator.

  1. because he’s tall
  2. because he’s got brown hair
  3. These are all the qualifications needed to be Abraham Lincoln according to my brain

Something else you may not know about Jimmy is that he like flamingos.

Like in the way I like chicken… except he doesn’t eat flamingos.

He even has a whole website where he draws them : Beyond Their Pond

But I realized one thing… Jimmy has never drawn himself as a flamingo… So I did it for him!

Happy Birthday!

Mermaids with Style: Elisa Edition

I have been trying to improve my drawing abilities… because why the heck not.

And to combine that with my penchant for drawings Mermaids… and you get…

Well, you get more mermaids… just drawing with eyes instead of my signature beady-eyes

This one is a shout out to my homie Elisa and her uncanny ability to always be on vacation or planning one!

Right now she’s planning our vacation to Greece! We are going there this spring and it’s going to be amazing. And we are going to do what we do best, drink, laugh and look at buildings and stuff. I feel like I should put that on my resume…. so someday I can be professional looker at buildings, with an emphasis in laughing and drinking.

Ziggy Played Guitar

I heard the news today, oh boy…

At 6 am my sister told me that one of my all time favorite people who have ever made a melody on this planet passed away.

My reaction was, as always is in this situation… “no.”

It was just his birthday.

He just released an album on Friday.

“No.”

But then I checked my phone and had like 6 different people telling that it was true… that David Bowie was gone.

Now, like many people I never met him in person. But I feel like I knew him on a different plane. He was such an inspiration to art (not just my own), to color, to vibrations. He was really something else. And I’m so glad the world got to experience the reaches of his imagination down to his last day.

Thanks David Bowie for all the magic, and all the inspiration,

Lauren
