water

I am obsessed with water.

Maybe it’s because we’re in the middle of a drought that has lasted most of my life…

or maybe just because I like water.

Today’s doodle is an illustration for a water themed furniture exhibit:

I think it has a nice message about juicy strength.

Things I’ve learned from pin-up girls

I have always found the ladies of yesteryear amazing. Be they someone’s awesome grandma, a movie star, a was hero, a writer, or a pin up girl. My favorite things to read about them are always when they reflect on their life and their careers. They always seem to have it figured out, because they have been through it all, and lived it up. And also that is when people say crazy things like “Alfred Hitchcock stalked me.”~ Paraphrased Tippi Hedren. I suppose it’s because they realize the best things to be are honest… because it’s what happened after all. And why should they be afraid to be truthful? Also seriously Tippi Hedren… I’m sorry about Hitchcock… he was all sorts of creepy.

I get carried up in that story about Tippi sometimes, because most girls have been in that situation. Even in modern times. A superior who is all hands… Gross.

Now another one of those ladies who figured it out and lived it up was Bettie Page. Now I have always understood her to a certain degree. She not only has totally rad bangs like me (I’m going to say I never copied her bang style. I have actually had bangs since I have had hair.) She was really mischievous… and I have been called that a few times (a week.) And people are super crazy about her, (sometimes in an unsettling way) without ever taking the time to understand her as a person, not a visual object.

But don’t worry I won’t get too much into that. I’m here to celebrate the good. One thing I have always like about her is she always seemed to be having fun, and making the most out of anywhere she was.

Pretending to be attacked by a tree… happy.

Sitting with leopards.. happy.

In weird plastic-y outfits… happy.

Being straight up naked… happy

Wouldn’t it be great to be that happy all the time? I think so.

Well one of my favorite quotes from her is super important for both boys, girls, and people who like to be happy near trees (in or out of clothes):

Thank you for being you Bettie.

I have always liked that quote, it’s simple and true. Be yourself and never apologize for it. You will thank yourself for it someday.

Also.. bangs are fantastic, they may be why both Bettie and I are so happy… it’s just a theory.

It’s Alright

Okay I’m going to give everyone a break right now.

That email your’re typing- stop it.

That show you’re watching- pause it.

That excel spread sheet- I’m not even going to say anything about that, because that window should already be closed.

I’m only going to steal about 3.5 minutes from your day anyways!

Now, since I have your attention. As we all know I try to live my life as a bit of sunshine in this weary ole world. I can’t do it all alone so I rely on friends, and music, and anything super joyous (I’m talking to you 50 cent mustache machines). I am a big Matt & Kim fan because their music just shouts joy of the roof tops, it hands out flyers for frees sandwiches on the street, it is like the prize in a cereal box. Their songs, in short, can make your day. And when you are in a great mood you can help others get to rad places too.

Just trust me watch this video.  And…

1. Try to stop yourself from wanting to do this at home (it’s really hard, as a constant tosser and turner I wish I was doing something this cool.)

2. Find me those underpants Kim is wearing. They are so my style.

3. Enjoy it because everything is going to be alright:

Oh and wait… don’t think I forgot the doodle:

This is my present back to Matt & Kim for all the joy they gave to me!

The Spectacular Failure

There are moments in life when you feel like a real winner. And then there are times you have that not so winning feeling.

Right now I feel like basically I am like the queen of failure. Everything I have done in the last few days has blown up in my face. And thank goodness I’m not a scientist… because I would probably have no face.

Maybe that would be okay lots of people like those faceless sculpture thingies:

faceless benefit?

I could become their model. I can hug a weird little heart shaped box for hours.. possibly while listening to “Heart Shaped Box” by Nirvana.

But I digress.

The spectacular failure

Here’s to hoping I meet my deadlines, finish Christmas shopping, and find time to cook all the food we eat at Christmas… I hope everyone else has a little more success in their endeavors! ♥

Also Tony I hope you are feeling better, and remember don’t challenge manholes…. they always win!
