When Breakthru Radio calls…

I am really excited to post this.

Although I should have posted this last week… late is still okay!

A few weeks ago I was very luckily found by a really cool internet radio station called Breakthru Radio, with the very sweet and really great interviewer Jess Goulart the host of “Biology of the Blog”!

She talks about blogs, and plays cool music! And I make a blog and I love cool music…. so we were meant to be together.

I feel really lucky to share my drawings and my odd little stories, and I’m really glad that all these doodles led me to Jess and this great station!

You should totally listen to Jess and if you have sometime you should even listen to my interview… where I mention a few people I draw about on this  very radio station!

The link to hear me talk about drawings and internetting here.

And I almost feel like apologizing for my voice… it sounds like I’m a 14 year old girl, who only watches “Clueless” on loop. I’m sorry, I’m from LA County and I do watch only “Clueless” on loop . This may be the reason why I draw my stories instead of being a news anchor!

Thanks again Jess!!!

♥Lauren

ps. now you can listen to it Jimmy! And I totally mentioned you!!!

It’s the time of the season… for sweater vests

Not only is it the time of the year for sweaters… but if you are one of the select lads who look really good in a sweater vest I suggest slapping one on.

If you need any sweater vest style advice I’d look to the following peeps:

Joseph Gordon Levitt can really wear a sweater vest, he is like the lord of sweater vests in (500) days of summer:

Mr. Schwartzman cand handle the implications of sweaters… without sleeves:

River’s Cuomo is like the definition of sweater vest:

Ellen Degeneres is looking pretty swift in her vest too!

Even Michael Jackson has sweater vested:

And also this bunny was made for a sweater vest:

And just in case you are still not sold on the sweater vest… have a gander of Johnny Depp in one:

So why don’t you give it a try:

So I suggest to all… wear a sweater vest especially if your arms are much warmer than your torso.

Glee: “Vitamin D” & Doe-Eyed Fashions

Episode 6 “Vitamin D” Fashion Recap!

This week after watching glee I felt a lot like this:

But, before I carry on about the happy drug faces seen through out this episode, let’s share Emma’s wicked fashion this week.

As usual Emma’s clothes don’t dissapoint!

Here she is removing mustard from Mr. Shue’s chin… check her green skirt!

She makes the best “celebrity judge” for the glee kids:

If you totally like the skirt like I do it’s Anna Sui at Antrhopologie… but their site says it’s no longer available.

On a positive and equally yellow note…

I think her fashion sense may be rubbing off on the girls:

Wouldn’t it be nice if they started a fashion club?

SPOILER! SPOILER!

This is a cute blue boatneck shirt, this is not exactly a spoiler…

BUT this is:

This not cute engagement ring is the spoiler!

OMG!

But now back to bow week!!!

Here’s Emma in her Dolphin Shirt and Coral skirt; it’s a great retro, yet bow filled number.

And just in case you had too much bow…

here she is in ruffles, and a coral skirt:

I love how she accents everything with yellow. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Glee: Sweaters, Man

okay so, I really like the clothes on Glee. And not the ones on the kiddo’s.

The ones I speak of course are on Jayma Mays.

Especially this one:

When I saw this one I new I had to have it.And I found a close friend to it here. And it somes in several cute colors. ANd my goal is to wear it without a St. Lucy’s Button Up under it :)

Her post Kurt throwing up on her outfit was cute too:

it’s almost Sgt. Peppery but still in a lady way.

Yes I know I have no accord to talk about fashion because of how much I have obsessed over this outfit:

But give me a break, I love sweaters.

Glee: the Fashion Club

It is incredibly obvious that I like “glee.”

Which has lured me with it’s “Bring it On” meets “Miss Guided” meets “Grease” plot…

Not just because the whole office is still singing “Single Ladies” or because I have been listening to Montell Jordan “This is How we do it” on repeat.

Nor is it because I want a button that says “gleek”

But because I cannot get enough of OCD(elicious) Emma Pillsbury played by the adorable Jayma Mays…

She’s the most adorable guidance counselor since… well, “Miss Guided’s” Ms. Perky… she is also in love with the Spanish teacher/Glee Coach Will.

hmm the parallels :)

But I digress

She really does.

And I adore her Mod-Preppy Chic-ness. It’s very “That Girl”.

She wears pretty much every color…

And she wears it well:

Green!

Purple!

Brown!

Yellow!

Her preppy adorable-ness makes her one of the hippest teachers at this Ohio High school. I could just imagine the immaculate closet of rainbow colors she must have! I wonder how many sweaters she owns????

and her lonely sweater is J-crew tastic…

I must also make this comment about her wicked cute accessories:

She may as well start her own Fashion Club… watch out Will:

But I know some people object to her cuteness due to her ulterior Will motives…So although she may have ♥’s for a married man most people can agree:

also…

Anyone want to go shopping for some cute clothes???

Halloween Oddity

I know Halloween is still really far away…

But I’ve been thinking about costumes… and I’m totally torn in  a Natalie Imruglia way…

here are my ideas:

1. Lady Gaga… because she’s super slick and I can wear triangles…

2. Fergie because I may want to be flossy flossy

3. Mary Tyler Moore… only if you’ll be Buddy Holly

4.David Bowie… however more like Ziggy Stardust

5. Julia Gulia… however I need Robbby Hart.

6. The Spaceman… you know you want to

7. Aunt Bee and her pickles

8. Molly Ringwald in this outfit:

Help Me out…

Things that are Fancy: Phone Edition

Are you searching for a new phone that can make all your dreams come true?

That will call people on their birthday with an automated message from you?

And also makes criss cross potatoes?

Well that doesn’t exist yet, but t-mobile’s more than snazzy “my touch” will let you create your own case for you phone and i have a few suggestions:

Would you like to treasure a Harpo phone production try an “Eric and Oprah” cover:

Or maybe celebrate the love of Clay and Isabel?

The possibilites are really endless.

The Great Hipster Debate

This one has been a long time coming.

We need to have a talk:

The Hipster talk. If you are like me you may have been called a hipster (even by some of your closest friends… AHEM!!!! Jimmy)

Usually in my circle used with the connotation that you are very white… see “Stuff White People Like” for more details… you may be an avid recycler, have plastic glasses, bangs, hand made purses, vintage clothing, a moleskine journal in said purses, and have a career in architecture as well. (but not a requirement)

You may be called one because you think Rivers Cuomo is dreamy and you own a mac computer that you use whilst you study for your PhD, and bike around the San Diego Area with your old school vans.  (But no one is pointing fingers)

You may be one because you talks about Gentrification and city planning, and live out in the Valley, drive a most rad van, mingle with hipsters on the daily, and wear cords, and old vans….

But what exactly is a hipster?

I like succinct definitions

I have “googled” this phenomena for a delightful wiki answer… yet still feel perplexed.

I have ascertained these notions and phenomena to be of the hipster variety:

1. The internet does not like them, i.e. Toothpaste for Dinner

2. Natalie Portman is like the queen of them

3. This website is awesome!

Because I do not like labels I suppose, so I would not immediately leap to the conclusion that I can be so tragically hip.

1. I think these outfits are cool:

2. I don’t enjoy coffee, i.e. starbucks, nor am I that fond of Mac which is trying to take over our lives like Michael Jordan and Hanes.

3.I don’t have sweepy teen bangs.

4. because if i’m a hipster Isabel is one too.

5. I like cheeseburgers

6. Because I’m a huge nerd.

I did find the sites of the books (The Hipster HandbookA Field Guid to the Urban Hipster ) that started this whole fandango to find they have a quiz.

The quiz gave me this answer:

Elizabeth Street Shop Girls
Fashionistica Auteurux

Though indigenous to a relatively miniscule and esoteric habitat, Elizabeth Street Shop Girls are so highly regarded by certain Hipsterati that their pursuit is not only recommended, but may regard the seasoned observer with particularly satisfying results. [continued on page 131 of the book]

Which is what I assume the Eagle Rock area means to us on the west side of the nation.

______________________________

And on another note:

Isabel was not labeled in the process of the quiz!!!!

and she’s all about the

and the

and everyone including Clay Aiken knows it.

____________________________

Jimmy on the other hand has not taken the test:

But here’s his answer according to me taking the test like a Jimmy:

Straight Edge
Hipto Besquarum

The Straight Edge lifestyle is a rigorous one. These Hipsters have managed to reinterpret the very concept of Hipness in order to lend countercultural cachet to a lifestyle both utterly devoid of youthful trappings and identical to that preferred by Squares, Nerds, Mommy’s Boys, Bible Students, Goody Two-Shoeses, and Chickens. [continued on page 68 fo the book]
 _____________________________

my conclusion:

I like Molly Ringwald. And other things that make me happy…. if it’s a phone, a shiny necklace, a book, or a post-it. So long as it’s not starbucks I won’t sweat it.

And I won’t brag about it… which is where this negative conotation comes from (Isabel and I know braggers, and if they are reading this they may already know that we think they’re lame)

happy hipster hunting
