Introduction to Thon

I am not always permitted to put doodles of my coworkers online… except for the incredibly tall and full of life Amber…

But this one seems especially pertinent to post.

This is an introduction to “Thon”

If I had to write a biography on him these are precisely the things I would say:

-He is a brave and creative curator of  this years Isabel stare-a-thon.

-He handles the large colony of spiders that live at my desk, and sometimes takes them outside so they can live in a place where I don’t have to experience them landing on my bare knees.

-He keeps an incredible amount of paper tubes at his desk. I think he’s going to make a raft out of them, so he can live the dream of forging a river Oregon Trail style (and by that I mean super unsuccessfully.)

-He has and uses a magic 8 ball for all of life’s important questions, or at least what he should eat for lunch. (which is an important question)

-And he is the riskiest person on your team at trivia Tuesdays… he will always go for double or nothing, even though the result is almost always the nothing.

-and one other thing that is much easier illustrated:

It’s true it’s all flippy and the sort.

And like most other dudes with Jim Halpert hair he has no quarrels about this…

When contacted Jim Halpert only had this reaction to his folicle buddy:

And seriously, they both make that face…

I think this is the best and briefest introduction I have ever accomplished.

(Authors Note: Amber just told me his hair is now longer than the standard Jim… but the doodle still stands.)

Everybody Dance Now!

I have been on an exercising kick lately.

And you would think that would mean I’m literally melting off the pounds…

Well no, not exactly. I feel hungrier than a linebacker on their way to the Super Bowl as a side effect.

But that is not what I want to focus on here. This is where I admit I had a soda and a hostess cupcake for lunch, but seriously all the sugar that’s been around me I feel like it is literally in the air whispering my name… and who am I to deny how much sugar wants to be eaten?

I will certainly not be the girl who denies sugar.

Oh wait- – –

I was talking about my attempts of being more active.

I, as you all know, am not athletic.

Like basically any sport you can think of that has coordination as a part of it… is something I simply will not be good at. Just ask all the guys who have tried to teach me to golf, or play basketball. At least they have fun admitting I will never learn, but am a tenacious trier.

One thing I have discovered that I’m not so bad at is… dance. On my quest of exercise I’ve been spending a lot of my non-studying time in the world of belly-dance. It’s an amazing art form. So much hip shaking and sparkles. And when I’m not reading about sustainable this and that’s for the test I have in a month… I’ve been dancing. (This is actually why I’ve had very little doodles to share, sorry about that Internet.)

On Friday there was a performance with some of the girls I dance with. It was so fun and sparkly and beautiful. It was my first belly-dancing event and I even left the show so swathed in the scent of incense that I thought the Pope was going to bless people with me.

I was inspired to actually doodle some business, and rather than focusing on how I smelled like a Palm Sunday mass… I thought of a simple fun doodle:

I wish I was dancing right now!

I wish I was dancing right now and not sitting at work…

It’s that time of year when I have very little desire to be here in general. I think it’s because I know that none of these people like each other*… and that I still have 48 hours of vacation that I haven’t taken this year!

I’m going to remedy that next week by running away.

And on vacation I’m going to dance, doodle and very much not work.

Happy Monday!

*I’m still trying to figure out if this is an exaggeration… But at the very least there are office mean girls (and they are not girls)

The Lunch

Today something magical happened.

Jimmy found himself in my neck of the woods during lunchtime. So we partook in business peoples lunch.

We looked so professional… dressed like grown ups who have to go to work at 8 in the am.

I thought about how Jimmy and I used to lunch everyday together when we were in school that was basically 5-6 days a week for a 5 year program.

That is an insane amount of lunches.

One great thing about working is now I can afford to not eat hideous school cafeteria lunches… and neither Jimmy nor I pulled an all nighter the evening before. Basically our lunch today was like tenfold fancier than any lunch we had in school.

Lunching it up with Jimmy.
Lunching it up with Jimmy.

Oh, I still spilled food down my shirt…. because even as a grown up I’m still a klutz.

And yes we ate chicken!

Button Day

My birthday is on Saturday…. I’m still deciding what I want to do!

But the only thing I know I want to do is post this drawing I never posted last year about my birthday also being the national day of buttons….

Fun Fact: National Button Day is America’s 24th favorite holiday!

Which is an amazing story solely because I love buttons. I even have a glass jar full of them.

And I love even more that Professional Eric super despises buttons.

Also I am in a mad scramble to start work on the remaining goals I have for my 27th year:

♥ Make a store of my doodle stuff (I just started working on this yesterday)

♥Get and learn how to play a ukulele (Um I may need more than 4 days on this one, but I’m going to Hawaii in December)

♥ Pass my architectural exams (This definitely won’t happen in 4 days but I just bought some study material)

♥Get my masters… Well now I know where I want to go… now it’s just the working on getting there.

I still have time though!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Magically Delicious

On this Monday I would like to share something I have thought of.

Even in this sometimes dreary little world… We all kind of have magical powers.

Like moms seem to know everything you are up to… even in my ye olden 20s it’s totally true… My mom knows I’m pretty much always goofing off on the internet.

Thon seems to know how to fix anything technological while having hair identical to Jim Halpert.

My brother can create intricate and fantastic little figurines when he’s not surveying the majestic north of  Alaska.

Amber is like a witch doctor of vitamins she has like an entire pharmacy in her purse.

Christine may know everything about all seasonings and wii games (this has come in handy many times).

Isabel makes tiny universes in petri dishes on a regular basis.

Nancy has this imagination that is out of this world.

My sister has the ability to accessorize like mad woman (this is really a gift.)

I mean we aren’t the Hulk or anything… but it’s all pretty cool when you think about it.

And if you were wondering about me, I think my ability to doodle would be my super power…

imagination makes everything awesome.

… but I would switch it with the ability to fly or teleport in a heartbeat.

Happy Monday

Mix-tape Masterpiece

Do you remember that feeling you would get when someone would make you a mix-tape?

It was a culmination of the joy and the discovery of all sorts of new melodies for your ears and then the sheer joy that they thought you were special enough to use hours of their lives to create this beautiful little portal into another audio fueled dimension.

Today I got caught up in the nostalgia of it all, and tried to think of the modern equivalent. Somehow a spotify playlist doesn’t have that same romantic allure of a mix-tape.

I mean it’s all the same thing… with none of the heart.

Would the modern technology equivalent be a flash drive full of the best memories that can fit on it?

I kinda like the idea of a flash drive full of silly things like that.

I think the best mix-tapes happened on cassette, there was so much strategy.

So much sitting by the radio waiting for the right song to play…. you know it’s going to be on next!

So much anticipation… will they like all 4 songs from the Goo Goo Dolls?

Will they think Guided by Voices is cool?

Will the Cure change their existence like it did mine?

Will they like Sammy Hagar fronted Van Halen songs?

i can hear you sing it to me in my sleep
I want to make everyone I adore right now a mix-tape. But no one has a cassette player.

And the song I quoted was one of my favorite 90s songs.

A song from a one-hit wonder… that wasn’t even their hit. It may have been on every mixtape I ever made… it goes with anything from the Clash to Lisa Loeb.

Important News from Dad

This post needs very little words…

Except… “Thanks, Dad.”

He doesn’t remember most other things… except this and to tell me when Snoopy is on TV.

Tell everyone you love that it’s Weird Al’s birthday.

Anchor’s Away

Happy Tuesday!
For some reason I felt super great today.

Like birds practically dressed me this morning.

I even went to work and was like pretty okay with the whole thing. Which is very rare since I have lately had the enthusiasm a quite uninterested ball of yarn.

I have not idea why I’m feeling so great on a Tuesday when I have a scratchy throat. I think it has something do with all the Keanu Reeves that has been placed in my life lately… or maybe because I get to go to my dance class tonight…

Anyways Today’s doodle is an anchor… maybe because of my mermaid dreams… or maybe because I really want to go to the beach.

I always feel bad for it during the fall and winter months… no one is really there. Everyone in California acts like we live in the arctic and it’s uninhabitable until next May. I actually prefer to go to the beach in the winter… there is no one ever there and I can just reflect on the vastness of it all… And I think the ocean just wants some attention. I plan on slipping on a sweater and heading out there some day after work:

Think about the ocean today… I swear it’s thought about you.

That’s not creepy… if it is listen to this song. It makes everything better:

One busy week & One nautical wish

This week has been crazy. And every time I do this some Jimmy complains that I do not post enough on this blog.

So here’s a snazzy recap!

-I got to learn how to do a veil belly dance number. And had mad expertise on swishing around the veil, because I dramatically wrap myself up in blankets like a little hobo… on the daily.

-I ate fried chicken. Most fancily… might I add. While sporting my chicken eating necklace.

-I got fairy wings I ordered in the mail. Because I needed them to be a proper adult.

– I made a floral crown… just because I wanted to see if I could make one…. totally succeeded.

-I got called a hippy 3 times while not even wearing that floral crown… and I liked it. I do recycle and I am kind animals and the planet!

-I fell asleep with a cat in my arms instead of going to work on time today… he was just so comfy cozy.

-I did like 60% of the planning for my sister’s impending baby shower, most of it while in the shower.

-And I decided that I still wish I were a mermaid. Because I’d be swishing my blanket in the sea… while being mer-sparkly:

I just can’t shake that nautical feeling!

Have a great weekend everybody!
