So Close… yet so incredibly wrong

I’m making this post very brief as I over did it with all those words yesterday.

One of my most endearing quirks* is that I read things like instructions, magazines, and billboards really fast… and sometimes My mind makes up a word or two in the process making thing sound so very strange.  I find myself re-reading things a lot.

For example, this.

And also Fantastic is NOT PRONOUNCED “fanta-stick”.

Here is my latest foray against the English language:

That’s a sub-tile joke!

But in my defense, I work in an architectural office and subway tiling is used a lot… so  it sneakily snuck into my subconscious.

*I’m hoping somebody thinks this is endearing.

Into the Light of AWESOME

Today I made a post. And then I looked back at it and it was not the kind of post this Lauren wants to make. It was in fact such a downer, I am not going to post it at all. But I’m still going to tell you the meat of the issue (that is one gross term isn’t it?)

It was about someone I don’t like. I feel like I’ve mentioned it so many times, I’m blue in the face…. I think I’m done with it.

Cue the applause from my friends who have had to hear about it for years. Yes, I think I’m done. I have come to notice lately that this one particular person who super doesn’t like me… also doesn’t really mean a hill of beans to me either. And although I dislike having to interact with them, what can I really do about it? I would prefer she leave my bubble of existence, but it’s not going to happen. So I’m going to grin and bear it.

I feel the best way I can make this analysis is by saying this person is like a zit on picture day. They show up out of nowhere and try ruin my day, but then I remember I can always Photoshop it away!

Now, I’m not a saint or anything, I’m really just trying here. And I can accept this certain person and I both have flaws. I am here to say one of mine is not being crazy about her, but still I’m nice enough to not want to let her bring me down. I still think her dislike of me is unfounded, because I’m not as unscrupulous as her insecurities, or more so her jealousies would have her think.

I’m just a girl with a pink polka dot shirt, and a smile after all.

And that is how I’m going to stay. I would like to take this time to tell you I am going to lead myself away from the “Darkness of Suck” and into the “Light of Awesome.”

So with that thought I leave you this really bad rendition of Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix:

I call it "Les Mustachless"

I’m Outie. I’m going to go be giggly somewhere.

Valengiggles

I heard my boss on the phone use the term “visually abrasive.” He of course was talking about a finish in a building… I thought to myself keep this in mind and use it when the time is right.

And oh that time is here, on this Valentine’s day. I share this valentine with the whole interent:

Have a Valentines Day!

Ahoy there, me Closet!

There are many things that can be said about me. One of those things is I have a very certain style of clothing I am the most comfortable in. Now it’s not sweat pants outfits, or superhero capes or anything of that sort. I am sort of in a serious relationship with dresses. I actually have so many that I could go about a month with never having to wear a pant at all… and since I live in California… basically I live a dream pant-less existence.

Earlier this week my mother told me showed me a dress that looked a bit like a mid-century-modern-sailor. And since that is basically the style I go for, I told my mom she was pretty spot on. I loved it so much I had decided on purchasing it!

And then I realized the next day that I had a problem. I have 3 versions of that very dress and have no real need for that dress at all! As heart breaking as it is it would be silly to have 4 blue nautical inspired color block dresses*… unless of course I was going on a cruise on the love boat, and then everyday I would want to show up on the deck like the most convivial passenger on a boat (which I would be.)

But since I have to work in an office 30 minutes away from the beach… I must suppress my nautical desires. But, I can still have my dreams…

Jolly Hollers,

Lauren

*I’m pretty much blaming my need for navy blue clothes on my 4 years at Catholic High School. It just goes so well with everything, and makes me feel spiffy. However Nuns, I still refuse to wear white socks…

Having a “Wonder”ful day at work

Work has been really quite busy as of late.

My boss thinks I know enough stuff to manage my own projects which is very different from the view of architecture I usually have… which is in essence draw and print.

I have in the last few weeks been learning the differences and backing capabilities of carpet…  experiencing meetings about wall hung toilets and drain pipes, answering engineers questions, measuring trelli (that is my plural of trellis, because I’m not a fan of the word trellises).

Also today I had to tell a client that we’re running late on his new project because he keeps making changes to his old projects. In essence he back-burner-ed himself.

As you can tell, I’m basically experiencing the most exciting thing architecture really has to offer you… which is work.

However all this work has seriously made me want to make changes to my business cards:

On my break today I will be making a cuffs and a crown…

Robot Toast

A few days ago, I was feeling a bit giggly…

I was telling Professional Eric that I had the new best idea. It could make millions of dollars, it could bring world peace, it could save us from losing calcium in our bones!

Yes everyone, I’m talking about a Mrs. Doubtfire robot that makes you toast… and speaks in the voice of Robin Williams. For some reason Eric did not agree with my desire to have one of these machines, as obviously he could not handle the way it will change the world as we know it.

I think I just need to show my designs to the right people… and we will never again suffer the indignity of warming our own breads.

However if you don’t accept the toast… it will throw fruit at you. So remember always say yes to toast!

Going to the Doctors & Being a Mutant w/ Lauren

Today I have to go to the doctor, and much like everyone in the entire universe… I never want to go to there, because its the worst.

There is nothing wrong with me, and no one to my knowledge is putting me in the nice crazy house, but still I don’t want to go.

It’s mostly because if I am away from my computer, I’m not inclined to sit there staring into my phone in the waiting room. I usually choose to draw or read a tangible book, which in a waiting room makes the eyes glare upon you like you are dressed in medieval costume on a bus crazy. Try it sometime, and you will discover those prying eyes make you  practically a waiting room mutant. Then coyly (socially awkward style in reality) I glance back at them, and even their 3 year old kids are on iphones and tablets… or playing with life size Mr. Belvedere robots… seriously.

But, I digress… I think this whole waiting room conundrum could be fixed if doctors were more fun:

I’m getting ready to go sit and wait.

Some people think I have a lovely blog

I have decided to burst from the gate with this recent turn of events! This bloggy has an award coming its way!

Teri from The Narcissist’s Blog has nominated this little bloggy with a “One Lovely Blog Award,” and since she is so kind to click on and sometimes enjoy this crazy collection of doodles and words. I must thank her also for letting me enjoy all the self-reflection and crazy adventures in her fabulous life! She previously nominated me as a versatile blogger, but I forgot to fill out the stuff because my sister had me fixing up her wedding real nice-like and such. But thank you Teri, you are fabulous!

Also this Lovely Blog Award makes me feel like singing a love song to my blog:

Back to this nomination thingy!

As you all know there are rules to accepting these awards.  The rules for The One Lovely Blog Award are as follows:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you. (See Above paragraph)
  2. Name your nominated blogs 10-15 is the standard number. Then notify them that you have done so. (I am only going to nominate a few peeps, so RULE BREAKER)
  3. Share seven things about yourself. (Below are my facts and a fancy illustration!)

Nominations Ahoy!

  • I would always pick But that’s for another blog because I love nerdy love stories, and CIA cat. Also your blog about twinkies, inspired a serious lunch conversation at my work… because I also work with weird guys who believe in the power of twinkies.
  • My new current favorite funny blog Sips Of Jen and Tonic. You are a visionary, and sometimes I feel like I’m reading things I would write. Also be wary of Dave Coulier, remember what he did to Alanis and that weird chipmunk puppet from Full House.
  • And Ashley Jillian because she is a funny girl in an improv class with the Old Spice Guy. BTW, You’re my favorite XOXO

7 Things About Me!

1. If I could trade closets with anyone I would totally steal Dita Von Teese’s clothes. Because she is always dressed too cute! (Lauren’s Note: not when she’s working… because then she’s not really dressed, but I digress.)

2. I really have been into nail art. This is what my nails are doing this week! Also thanks Amber for getting me these nail stickers for Christmas:

3. Today I received a pink star card and an invitation to “The League of Professionals” at work, because I have more responsibility now! (This was obviously the doing of the most treasured professional in the SGV)

4. My first reaction to reading Teri’s comment was this is awesome… I need to make a doodle of getting an award. I present to you this doodle of the me and the worst acceptance speech ever.

5.  I have 20 toys in my cubicle, this includes 9 kids meal toys, 1 lucky cat, 1 stuffed penguin, 2 beanie baby promotional wilsonart dogs, a ghost, and 6 beautiful gifts!

6.  I really love kitchy things, including this weird sunflower I found in Washington DC:

7. I accidentally stole this pen from the Hyatt last weekend:

I'm a pen stealer!

Now I’m going to continue to doodle. I hope 1 person learned something during this post. I hope that person is also singing that song about being a Super Model from Clueless.

What I did this weekend!

My sister got married this last Saturday and I have to tell you it was incredibly awesome. The weather cleared before her ceremony, the day went on without a hitch. We giggled in incredible amount. I caught one of those bouquets she threw.  So I guess that means I’m getting married. Someone should tell Jon Hamm as I choose him to marry in sound mind.

And of course, she looked amazing! And since she is not a fan of me posting pictures of her online (I am beginning to believe she is an international Jewel thief), I have decided to show this one of the back of her dress:

You can tell from the back of her dress how amazing she looked!

What I can share about what I have learned about weddings is that they are a lot of work, A LOT OF WORK! But when you love the couple it is more than incredibly worth it. I have never worked so much at a party ever, also I had a police escort to her room with the Dollar Dance moola. And I must give another thank you to Christine, who was a guest that didn’t mind to help me!

Thanks for helping me work my sister's wedding. And dancing to Pitbull with reckless abandon. Also for not getting lost with how many people at this wedding were named Christine...

I would like to share my rating of my sister’s wedding; 2 awesome thumbs up and 1 great winky face to my sister. I hope you are bonkers happy for all eternity!

Forever your girl,

Lauren

P.S. Word to my brother, it was an honor to see you dance to “Sexy & I know it” has changed my life. And in the future will totally traumatize both of your children. Rock on Tony!
