Club 27

Seriously. My birthday is finally here.

That means the whole calender year is nearly complete. But for me it’s a beginning. A new chapter.

And since my 26th year was one of the strangest, and most surreal 365 days of my existence and tentatively titled “The Passion of Unicorn” … I’m expecting my next 365 to be even more exciting.

I’ve been sharing my experiences on this blog all year so this post is going to be like one of those clip shows from the Golden Girls… except it will have awesome new material too. Because that is what I do.

So let’s kick it off with the old.

Things I’ve Learned in my 26th year:

Crepes are fantastic. And in the right moment, they can be life changing.

That every one deserves to feel like their life is a romantic comedy, even if it only lasts for a few hours.

That everyone should “be prepared to be surprised”, because if you keep your eyes open… you can see that life is made of them.

That sometimes you should just try to realize in the future things won’t suck in the way they do now… but it isn’t going to be perfect.

That the things you want, aren’t always what you need or get… but I will never settle for anything that is less than wonderful.

Some people in the world really just like you for who you are. And I send them my most sincere thank you’s.

There is no shame in telling people to “Wang Chung tonight” especially if you are sincere about these wishes.

Sometimes a churro makes everything better.

My optomistrist is right, I should have a tv show. Everyone would have died of anticipation during my sweeps month.

Even though loved ones have great intentions… no one but you, knows what is best for you.

Talk to strangers. Because sometimes awesome things happen. This is a shout-out to all my lovely blog readers who I have never met in real life but feel an affinity for!

And if there was a narrator to my life, it would be Drew Barrymore.

Things I will do in the next year:

Buy more red lipstick. I’m so tired of people trying to drag it down. I like it and it likes me. And I don’t care what dudes say about it.

Enjoy my girliness with reckless abandon. I’m 27 and I bought sparkly diamond mascara. #dealwithit

Finish up my new doodle store! Preview notice, it’s going to be called the “Viciously Sweet Shop” and it may be candy themed. Take that, Katy Perry.

Kick back and draw. Work is stressful enough, turning it into silly doodles ALWAYS makes it better

Blast through my ARE’s. Boy have I been procrastinating on those. I need to get my booty back in gear and get it done with.

Maybe the masters… I should probably add that to the list too. I mean if it’s out there… maybe I’ll do it.

Take more dance classes. I stopped doing them because I thought they were “uncool” during my teen years. Well teen Lauren was wrong… I love them, they are the best way to get out energy. And also the weirder the better. I like telling people that I Tahitian dance, and I love dancing around my office. And I think more dancing could help my confidence when I go out to places. Any suggestions of what kind?

Learn how to play the songs I love on Ukulele. I will then pull out said ukulele from my trunk and surprise serenade people.

Have a wonderful Lauren Birthday weekend!

Lauren

At least there will be cake

Tomorrow is my birthday and I did not make the deadline in my Blergsday miracle.

I have to show up and work… like a grown up. Instead of staying home and chillaxing in my jammy jams until I hit the town with Christine.

At least there will be cake!

It is okay. I have been promised cake, and everyone likes promises that are made with frosting.

Make me sweet sweet promises

So it’s all really good news if you think about it!

♥Lauren

That’s What Friends Are For…

Much like a Dionne Warwick jam, it is really great to spend time with your friends. Especially if your friend is Rupert Evert singing “I say a Little Prayer For You”. Oops wrong song reference… and on the note of Rupert Evert, I sent him a friendship bracelet in 1998 and he’s never gotten back to me. He must be so excitedly wearing it that he forgot to send a thank you.

As always I digressed.

But this weekend a conversation happened between me and Christine that just shows you the magic of friendship. And if it were crafted into a 2 hour movie… it would win all the awards.

I present to you today’s doodle:

I imagine the movie based on this doodle starring Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz, in the roles they were born to play.

However I would like to point out today is Amber’s birthday and she will have a smashing doodle on this page tomorrow. Happy Birthday Am-bear.
I am just too busy with all this work silliness to make a proper doodle today… but oh tomorrow there will be doodles!!!!

Happy Tang-iversary!

This weekend was all about Mother’s and such. So shout out to all you mothers out there (that made me feel like I was on TRL). But this weekend also held other precious events like the 30th birthday of the most darling of all Nancy’s.

So today I will share with you 10 awesome facts about Nancy:

1. She is the master of buffets, this girl knows about eating all the delicious foods while still eating ample servings of vegetables, fruits and the incredibly necessary cake.

2. There is no one else I could imagine being fake engaged to on Facebook but her… we like when people congratulate us.

3. Nancy always fights for her rights. Every time there is something that just isn’t right, Nancy will be there with rationality and spicy anger. She is like a Magical Tangier Avenger. If she were a super heroine I think her name would actually be “The Tangy Avenger”

4. When we combine our artistic powers together we either get the best thing ever… or the most terrifying project you have ever seen. There is no middle ground. And no I cannot post pictures of our creations due to an agreement with Nancy, but I can say it does have giraffes.

5. She is a third degree Toast Master. She even as a Toastmaster made a speech about toast, while wearing a toast pin. That is like the matrix of toasts…

6. She is one of the funnest people to giggle around the world with. We were so famously giggle-glued to each other in college that people would interchangeably confuse us.

7. Sometimes if you convince her, she wears color… lately she’s been like a primary color dream.

8. She has no problem being a goof. Please refer to the picture of her in a Mickey Mouse hat holding a dinosaur in the sidebar of this site.

9. She wins awards like crazy. One of the awards she won was being the best project partner I had in school. I think she may be more proud about her work awards though.

10. Nancy may be a psychic because she always has things figured out before anybody else. (Also see #3, because this may be her secret power).

There are so many other rad things to add about Nancy, but I do not want to incriminate anybody. Especially myself. Rock on Tang-a-lang! And have the best birthday week ever!

Happy Birthday Tony!

There is nothing I like better than a birthday! The only way a birthday can be made is by taking place on Fried Chicken Day… and the birthday on glorious Fried Chicken Day is none other than my Brother Tony’s Birthday! My brother is a totally rad dude, he’s a super talented artist and is an incredible dad and snazzy dancer!

Now the only thing that super rad about my brothers birthday is that he lives so far away, in leafy green Montana. So I don’t get to see his actual face today… and that means I have to make something special happen…

So you know what’s going to happen… a doodle!

Happy Birthday Tony! I hope you had a wonderful day and a fabulous birthday week. I am thinking you need some secret Chinese food to make this week really special!

It’s the Best Day Ever! Part 2

How can today get better?

I can tell you how! IT’S ISABEL’S BIRTHDAY TOO!!!!!

I’m nearly hyperventilating with excitement at this point! And now I bring to you part 2 of the best day ever!

Okay so besides deciding that Isabel should take the place of “Bill Nye Science Guy” and become “Isabel Science Gal” with beautiful Clay Aiken as her assistant, I have created a list of 10 wonderful things about Isabel on this the day of her birth:

1. She knows where to get some great crepes, and that is a great aid in friendship!

2. She doesn’t like scary movies, to the point where she screams when nothing scary happens!

3. She is genuinely good-natured about practically everything I tease her about. She’s one of those people who take most things in stride. Who else would be in a 9 year (fake) relationship with American Idol Superstar Clay Aiken?

4. Isabel is possibly the best person to stare at ever! We have a Stare-A-thon dedicated to her every November 20th-December 20th, which everyone can join in!

5. She gives the best advice ever… and she doesn’t make you feel like a crazy when you ask her really strange questions.

6. Isabel has this fear of sticky things, that is hilarious… the thought of a child covered in sticky ice cream residue makes her want to die a little.

7. She is the master of science! Actually she’s currently PHD’ing all over the town with science! I bet you she could make a mondo awesome paper mache volcano!

8.  Isabel loves mice so much that she no longer practices science tests on them, she is trying to become the patron saint of rodents.

9. She has the largest collection of Weezer shirts (this may not be true, but it’s what I’d like to imagine.)

10. She once owned a bean bag that was the size of a couch… it was called a love sac. Although the name was gross it was very comfy. She once told me about what happened to it… but I forgot what it’s fate actually was.

So Magical Dr. Isabel. I hope you have a magnificent day filled with lots of deliciousness. I also hope that your year is more fun than inter-tubing with Donald Trump in a pool of conditioner!

♥& Lollipops,

Lauren

It’s the Best Day Ever! Part 1

Today is one of the best days ever! It is both of my BFF”s birthdays in ONE GLORIOUS 24 HOUR PERIOD!

So as one can imagine, I’m about as excited as a hungry Panda in a bamboo forest!

In this special 2 part post I will celebrate Southern California’s Most Treasured Dip Associate… Christine!

Let me share with you 10 amazing things about Christine so you can appreciate her the way I do.

1. This girl has no qualms in partaking in incredible levels of childish merrymaking with me. We take pictures picking Liam Neeson’s nose… take trips to the .99 store to buy props for everyday lives… and have an on going word game that has lasted a good 10 years (and now has it’s own book.)

2. She has a silver sequined promise beret that matches my gold sequined promise beret! (Our promise is to be awesome!)

3. Christine has an apartment on top of a hill, that has mustaches over the doorways.

4. She isn’t afraid of scary movies… in fact she almost never notices the scary things.

5. She has a healthy fear of left turns in Downtown L.A. (but who doesn’t.)

6. She has the ability to make really big crazy eyes! Which I am really envious of this because my eyes are wicked tiny and crazy.

7. Christine has this fantasy that we should all be in a Bollywood movie, someday I will make this happen for her.

8. She has eaten at all the Senor Fish restaurant locations!

9. She will at a drop of a bangle bracelet threaten people who are not nice to me!

10. She is a secret swash buckler, and has this fantastic umbrella sword. I like to think she uses it to fight crime in her spare time.

Thank you for being awesome Christine! I hope you have the best birthday a girl could ask for, and the best year to follow!

Happy Birthday Lincoln!

Today is a great day in history. Abraham FREAKING Lincoln’s birthday!

Also I have to make a post about this because my friend Jimmy is Practically Lincoln’s Sweet Valley twin. And they are both even February babies… so I am now totally convinced of my findings!

I have made a doodle of my proof:

Have a Great rest of the weekend people!

♫Lauren

Congratulations Everyone! It’s Jimmy’s Birthday

Today I measured a warehouse with the most professional of measuring buddies. And I told him today’s most precious news.

It’s my friend Jimmy’s birthday.

Yes, magical Jimmy! I call him this because not  many people in the world would let you incessantly take pictures of them for 5 years straight, and rarely complain… well sometimes he did, but I took pictures anyway.

Basically, I've been capturing all the exciting moments since 2003

Well today Jimmy turns 27. Which makes me realize several things:

-I’ve known Jimmy for 9 years this August, and I have no ideas where the years have gone.

-I wish he’d become an Abraham Lincoln Impersonator… because he is tall, skinny and has brown hair (in my mind that makes you Abraham Lincoln)

-When are we going to go rummage through more thanksgiving postcards?

-I wonder if you are going to watch Carrie to celebrate your birthday, because if so I’m in.

-Will young James ever become a professional clog dancer? Or ever take a clogging class (I’m betting no)

-I wish that you would sing karaoke versions of Dolly Parton songs with me I would like to sing 9 to 5, thanks.

-Will you ever become the Where’s Waldo of Santa Barbara?

Okay I know that those are really strange observations… but I reserve only the best for Jimmy. And’ here’s the corresponding doodle:

p.s. If you like any of the things mentioned in this blog… like Waldo, Santa Barbara, Thanksgiving Postcards, Halloween movies and being weird… you should totally find Jimmy he likes those kinds of things

Happy Birthday Jimmy!
